Autumn has arrived in Moscow and with that the festival the Golden Autumn gastronomic festival. This is a “Moscow Seasons” festival (urban festivals for every season) hosted by the city of Moscow. This feast of harvest is the biggest of the Moscow Seasons events and will take place all over the city.
The main purpose of the festival is to show off and celebrate the Russian agricultural business and the participants will come from all over the country, representing both large national and small private farms as well as food and processing enterprises. This year’s theme will be about innovations in Russian agriculture. As a visitor you will learn about robots and other smart technologies that contribute to, monitor and develop the country’s food production. But there will be not only technology; it is after all a food festival. Buy local farm products, learn about traditional Russian cuisine and try out seasonal dishes. There will be something for everyone!
Where to enjoy it
• The Red Square will serve as the centre of the festival. Here they will create for us a real field, complete with waving wheat, a wild garden, forest trees and berries and wooden animal sculptures. Along with the field there will be a Farmer’s market where one can buy food and other local products. Popular Moscow bands will play their interpretations of traditional folk music and also cooking competitions will be held where cooks compete for the title “best cook” under supervision of experts. I don’t know about you, but for me the thought of a sort of live Masterchef Russia sounds like a blast.
• At the passage from Manezhnaya Square to Revolutsii Square there will be an exhibition called “Pulling Power Evolution: from Plough to Modern Machinery” showing off agricultural machinery from the early 1900th and all up until modern days. The exhibition includes several exhibits from the Science and Technology Museum of Tractor History. If you are interested in these types of things, maybe the names STZ 15/30 and DT-54 will cause excitement. I know nothing about it but I will not pass down on the opportunity to see some old USSR tractors live.
• The two places mentioned above will be the main attractions of the festival but there are so much more to see. For example: on the Revolutsii Square you will enter a small autumn town offering gifts and products from all over Mother Russia. You can try seasonally created dishes by Moscow restaurants and listen to local musicians. On the Manezhnaya Square next by you will find flower and pumpkin decorations dedicated to famous fairy tales. At 10 different places all over the city you will meet historical reenactments and learn about different epochs and agrarian developments throughout history. This year the festival will be held from October 4 to October 13. The festival hours will be 11am-9pm on weekdays and 10am-10pm on weekends. Gather a group of friends and welcome the new season together while enjoying outstanding Russian food.
